This page lists what we do not take at Berkeley Recycling and has information about where you can take these items.
General Info
Generally, the first place you should check is at Stopwaste.org (below) who provide a search tool to help you find the proper place to recycle/process your waste.
Electronics
We don’t take monitors, printers, CPUs, televisions, cellphones, ink cartridges, microwaves, stereos, radios, electronic toys, etc.
Household Hazardous Waste
No hazardous waste are prohibited including anything flammable, corrosive, radioactive, explosive, toxic, oxidizing, or carcinogenic. Read about Hazardous and Universal Waste.
Household Hazardous Wastes (HHW) are products that contain harmful chemicals which, if put in the trash, may harm people or the environment. HHW may contain corrosive chemicals that can cause burns, as well as toxic metals like cadmium and lead. Only selected HHW can be dropped off at Berkeley Recycling.
Plastics
Plastic bags and film plastic are not recycled at Berkeley Recycling.
Batteries
We do not accept e-bike/scooter batteries, laptop batteries or any non-household type battery.
Household Hazardous Waste

CFCs or freon | No refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners (household and auto) |
Asbestos | No insulation, heat ducting, old furnaces etc.. Contact licensed asbestos removal company; breathing asbestos is hazardous to your health. |
Refrigerated appliances | No refrigerated appliances such as refrigerators and freezers. No microwave ovens. Small mostly-metal appliances such as toaster ovens and toasters okay. |
Cylinders | No gas, propane or compressed air cylinders. |
Tanks and drums | No gas tanks. No 55-gallon drums unless cut in half or with visible four inch hole |
Miscellaneous | No transformers, printed circuit boards, lead or heavy metals. |
