How to recycle batteries at Berkeley Recycling:

Enter the Berkeley Recycling Center from Second Street

As you enter the Berkeley Recycling facility turn left towards the drop-off area.

Batteries Accepted at Berkeley Recycling

Residents and small businesses in Alameda County can drop-off household batteries (including rechargeables) up to 5 pounds or 1 quart for free.

Household Lithium & Tool Batteries

These include non-rechargeable and rechargeable AAA, AA, C, D, button batteries, tool batteries, iPod and PDA batteries. Residents and small business can drop-off household batteries up to five pounds or one-quart for free. Above that we charge a fee.

Tool and button-type lithium batteries need to be taped together to reduce the risk of fire.

Household Alkaline Batteries

These include non-rechargeable and rechargeable AAA, AA, C, D, button batteries, tool batteries, iPod and PDA batteries. Residents and small business can drop-off household batteries up to five pounds or one-quart for free. Above that we charge a fee:

Automotive batteries

We now accept automotive batteries at the drop-off no fees.

Alternatively automotive and marine batteries may also be recycled at most automotive shops and dealers throughout Berkeley. Check with your local automotive parts/repair shops if they will take your used batteries.

The following types of batteries are not accepted at Berkeley Recycling

Lithium power packs

These can be commonly found in electric skateboards, scooters, e-bikes, etc.

Soft pack lithium batteries (battery packs without a hard casing)

These are commonly found in laptops, USB-chargers, mobile phones, etc.
