How to recycle cans at Berkeley Recycling:

Pre-sort your cans into aluminum, bi-metal, and tin.

Enter the Berkeley Recycling Center from Second Street

As you enter the Berkeley Recycling facility turn left towards the drop-off area.

Deposit your cans in the appropriately marked bin.

As you enter the Berkeley Recycling facility go straight towards the Buyback area.

The Buyback area is a series of bins and conveyors under an awning to the right after the stop sign.

Deposit your cans in the conveyor marked “CANS”.

Cans Accepted At Berkeley Recycling

Aluminum cans

Aluminum beverage containers, such as soda, beer, and carbonated juice, are purchased at the Berkeley Recycling Buyback Center.

Tin cans

Tin cans, such as soup and other foods, are accepted at the drop-off center at Berkeley Recycling. 

Bi-metal cans

Bi-metal cans, such as Sapporo beer, are purchased at the Berkeley Recycling Buyback Center.
Non-redemption bi-metal cans are primarily pet food cans which may be added to aluminum foil at the Berkeley Recycling Center. 

All cans must be empty and preferably rinsed before recycling.

The following types of can are not accepted at Berkeley Recycling

Hazardous materials

Propane, butane, pesticides, and compressed gas, should be recycled at StopWaste.org. See StopWaste.org’s Propane Page for more information.

Non-empty paint cans

Aerosol cans

Aerosol cans are not accepted at this time.
