How to recycle glass at Berkeley Recycling:

Drop-off

Before you arrive:

Pre-sort your bottles and jars by color (clear, brown, and green)

Enter the Berkeley Recycling Center from Second Street

As you enter the Berkeley Recycling facility turn left towards the drop-off area.

Buyback

Before you arrive:

Pre-sort your CRV bottles by color (clear, brown, and green). If your materials are not pre-sorted go to the parking area.
Also sort bottles into CRV and non-CRV

Enter the Berkeley Recycling Center from Second Street

As you enter the Berkeley Recycling facility head straight towards the Buyback area.

Wait at the stop sign for a CCC representative to guide you to the appropriate location.

Proceed to the glass bins near the end of the Buyback area

Deposit your bottles in the appropriate bin

Glass Accepted at Berkeley Recycling

Bottles – CRV

Glass beverage containers, such as soda, beer and carbonated juice are purchased at the Berkeley Recycling Buyback Center. We are a California Certified Recycling Center and pay California Redemption Value (CRV).

Bottles and jars – non-CRV

Non-redemption glass containers accepted for drop-off. Bottles must have caps removed and must be separated by color. Window glass and drinking glasses are contaminants and must not be included with bottles and jars.

Bottles must be empty with caps removed and must be separated by color to sell or donate.

The following types of glass are not accepted at Berkeley Recycling


Window glass & drinking glasses

Non-container glass such as windows, drinking glasses, dishes and other ceramics are not accepted at Berkeley Recycling and are not currently recyclable. For more information see “Ceramics” in Home and Garden category.
